Lessons learned from World Water Week in Singapore

on 6:02 PM
Recently held Water Week Singapore for the year 2011 from July 4 to 8 This is the fourth year of this forum is very important and it will meet academics and decision makers on a very high level, and considers this idea by the Singapore leader too, which worked over the last forty years to develop important policies on the water and re-use.

This was the week of this year's busy a lot of different activities in all respects but one of the most benefits and lessons learned from this week was a summit meeting of leaders of the water (Water leader summit) and there was a speaker that day was Professor Peter Kulaik (Dr.Petar Gleick) and was Among the topics put to it is to talk about the idea (Peak water) Water Summit, here's kick this world of the subject and was talking in detail about the importance of integration in the development of different policies for each of the water, energy, agriculture and climate change was clearly emphasizes the importance of being there full coordination between the four elements to be combined with high efficiency.

I single out here the subject when talk in recent times, a water security, food security and the importance of balance between these two important topics where it has become certain, but it is essential to all policy-makers to public water and agriculture to look at this issue in an integrated manner and not to give priority to an item on the other, and the importance of balance between the component of energy is important as it was connected with the full production process water.

The water security is very important and must work to develop water policies to serve future generations, but food security is so important that must be within the system of public policies.

A country with a desert such as Saudi Arabia has a shortage of great sources of water brimming with praise and credit for energy makes us think differently from other countries where there is something a lot of water sources and this leads us finally to the importance of industry, desalination of salt water where it is after God Almighty only source and the President, which can be relied upon heavily for future generations as a source of drinking water and I am sure, God willing, that once the focus was on scientific research and effective investment by the state on this main source, it will be soon, God willing, at very low prices.

The scientific partnership that has existed between King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology and IBM in collaboration with the General Establishment for the desalination of salt water to produce water at a cost not exceeding 1.5 Real per cubic meter using solar power station in an initial in the city of Khafji produce 30.000 cubic meters is an important step for the production of water desalination low costs and hoped that, in the following stages to decrease the cost to less than one riyal per cubic meter, and this right if achieved during the next few years will be, God willing, a major breakthrough for the industry, desalination and the interest here double as will reduce use of fossil fuels and focus on solar energy and this in terms of purely economic to achieve three goals together is to reduce the environmental pollution and fuel use for export and take advantage of solar energy wasted and thus maximize the benefit to the state's income and reduce the price of the local cost of water production.

This example, or cooperation between the King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology, IBM Corporation and to greet the salt water is the right model should continue to be applied in order to reach the desired goal, God willing.
