New participants in the symposium the International Telecommunication Union on the techniques of communication and information held in Ghana last week, calling for world leaders to recognize the ability of information and communication technology in mitigating the effects of climate change and adaptation, ahead of the United Nations Conference on climate change in Durban, South Africa (COP- 17) in the period from November 28 to December 9, 2011.
The site of the Ministry of Communications Saudi Arabia that one of the documents that emerged from the symposium called for the International Telecommunication Union as a United Nations agency for telecommunications and information technology-led coalition to urge the delegations participating in the Durban next (parties XVII) in South Africa to take advantage of the huge potential offered by communications solutions and technology information in reducing emissions in all sectors.
The document called for the adoption of an approach known as "closed loop" in the manufacturing and recycling in order to reduce the need for extraction and exploitation of raw mode. The document also called for the recognition of the value of information and communication technology in the monitoring of over-cutting of forests and all types of crops and other environmental phenomena.
For his part, Hamadoun Toure, Secretary General of the International Telecommunication Union, the Union's commitment to provide the technical knowledge to mitigate the effects of climate change and adaptation. He added, it became clear to everyone now that the information and communication technology can play a very important role in this regard.
The recognition of this role at the international level will provide a strong argument for countries to put climate change strategies so that the information and communication technology in which a strong element.
The Symposium on the International Telecommunication Union on information and communication technology and environmental and climate change is the sixth of its kind as previous successful events in Kyoto, London, Quito, Seoul, Cairo, which began in 2008.
